Happy Birthday Oakwood!

Planting the love of learning! 1958-2008

One of my most lasting memories of Oakwood is the playground. When I was there (1973-1977, I think) the playground was made of huge tires - big stacks of farm tractor tires with poles up the middle of them to slide down. The tires smelled...like tires and were great breeding grounds for mosquitoes when it rained. But they were great for hiding in, and if you hid long enough you might miss the whistle of the "duty" (playground monitor) telling you recess was over.

I have memories of the playgrounds as well. I remember the big tires on the West side playground and the logs that you walked around on, on the east side playground. My 5th grade teacher was Mr. Saunders and I have great memories of him. I used to play tennis on the tennis courts in the summer and skate on the rink in the winter. My years at Oakwood were wonderful and I have great memories!
